Hooray For Speech Therapy.

Kurt Fitzpatrick offered us an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of a young person working his way through a number of different approaches and theories to cure his stuttering. In the end there is a moment of reflection that acknowledges what has been accomplished but also that resolution can also mean living with who you are and appreciating the inherent value in that.

It was an active, perhaps too rambunctious at times, crowd that appreciated taking the journay towards epiphany.

In defense of and apology by the perhaps too rambunctious members of the audience ...

Speech Therapy is a very funny play about a rather mundane subject. It was impossible not to breathe along with by "flow" - later modified to the "flutter" in order to accommodate more current knowledge of the diaphragm. Kurt knows how to work an audience - he encouraged the development of the "Dr Ignatius chorus" into quite a reptilian growl. The breakneck pace of the piece really does reinforce the eerie subtext that the actor is just one step ahead of a massive communications failure - very itchy suspense.

Molo's by way is a very intimate venue where it is actually possible to believe Kurt's crack about mom and dad being in the audience.

This was one of my favourite shows – thanks Kurt.
